„ Wer die Rede des Papstes am Montag in der Holocaustgedenkstätte Jad Vaschem 

mit deutschen Ohren gehört hat, mag sie für angemessen gehalten haben. Doch 
die Leitung von Jad Vaschem reagierte „empört und erschüttert“.

In ersten deutschsprachigen Berichten war die Rede von 
„Menschheitsverbrechen“ an den Juden. Der Papst habe „der von den 
Nationalsozialisten ermordeten Juden gedacht“. Gleichwohl kommen in seiner 
Rede weder „Verbrechen“, noch die Nationalsozialisten, nicht einmal das 
Wort „Mord“ vor.

Eine genaue Lektüre seiner Rede macht schnell verständlich, weshalb die Rede 
in jüdischen Ohren empörend klang.

die symbolische Zahl „sechs Millionen“ nicht über seine Lippen brachte.

„Tragödie“ klingt wie Erdbeben, Tsunami oder Autounfall, nicht aber wie ein 
industrieller Massenmord von Menschenhand…„
